The film The Boy in the Striped Pajamas was published in 2008 and fits into the categories Thriller/War. The movie is related to the Holocaust. The Jews were imprisoned and stuck in a concentration camp with no way out and surrounded by fences covered in barbed wire. I recommend this movie to everyone and it is worth watching. If you look forward to watching the movie then don’t read because there are spoilers later in the article.
This movie is about this 8 year old boy named Bruno. He is very interested in adventure and is a curious kid. Bruno and his family including his father, mother, and sister moves to a new place so that his father who is a soldier can have his job promoted and would then be closer. After they all move to a new place he finds himself unhappy and pretty lonely without his old friends. But, that’s only until Bruno finds out there’s a camp so close to his house and he meets another 8 year old boy named Shmuel. Shmuel is a Jew prisoner and Bruno thinks the camp is really a game.
The father of Bruno takes his job very seriously. He sometimes acts like the children aren’t there. The sister is kind of brainwashed into thinking that the Jews are bad people and that they deserve everything being done to them. The mother believes that growing up in that environment is not healthy and shouldn’t grow up seeing that. The mother and Bruno are the only people in the family and in the house that know that hurting anyone is wrong. They both feel incredibly bad for the Jews and do not want to live in that house.
Bruno digs himself inside of the concentration camp to get to Shmuel. Shmuel brings an extra pair of pajamas with him so that Bruno can blend in with the rest. The soldiers and people in charge of the concentration camp escorted the Jews out of their bunk rooms all together, including Bruno of course. They are all forced to remove their pajamas before entering a gas chamber. They were then locked inside and all of them lost their lives. Bruno’s family and some soldiers are looking for him through the camp knowing Bruno was always attracted to that place but it was already too late.
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas can be a little disturbing for sensitive people. More people find the movie sad. This movie suits people for ages 13 and up. The movie is a great way to learn about the Holocaust and what it’s all about. This can be an opportunity for someone to learn and be engaged at the same time without being bored. Since sometimes people can prefer a movie over a book.
