The Woodbridge Middle School basketball season went through the 2nd marking period and just ended.
Mr. Salinas, the basketball coach, said, “I think it was challenging and there were a lot of lessons that the players learned. The best part of the season was spending time with the students and having student-athletes understand the level of commitment you need to be successful in anything you take place in.”
Caiden Pinto, an 8th grader on the basketball team, said, “The season was great, we were very positive on the offensive and defensive end, I think we could’ve definitely done better but overall we did pretty well. I believe that we had spirit and no matter what we pushed through and went for the win. As a team, winning our first game against Isilen was a great accomplishment for us and Mr. Salinas helped us work hard and work together.”
Joseph Cabrera, another 8th grader on the team mentioned how he thought the season was good but they would’ve done better if they didn’t make little mistakes costing them some games.
BellaSofia Ortiz, an 8th grader cheerleader at WMS, explained that the whiteout game and the team’s first win was one of the more exciting games of the season. She said, “It was exciting because winning felt good.”
Mr. Salinas also mentioned how in their practices, they practiced building on playing together as a team, and they did many different drills, allowing them to understand how each of them performed. He looks forward to next year, building on what they had this year. He thinks the players’ experience should allow them to grow as student-athletes, and he doesn’t want them to experience the feeling of not having many wins again. So, he hopes they can build on what they felt this year and make next year better.
