THE BOOK FAIR
WMS held a book fair from December 9th, 2024 to December 12th, 2024 in room 307. If you bought an item from the book fair whether it was a book or a toy you were allowed to write your name down for a raffle, whoever won got to pick from a pile of your choice and you were able to choose whatever book you wanted as long as it was under $15. Now I was one of the winners and interviewed another winner Sophia Guzman and a teacher Mr Malmstrom about it
Mia Z (The Warrior Messenger): “Hi I am Mia from the Warrior Messenger, I heard you won the book fair raffle and I have just a few questions for you”
Sophia Guzman: “Ok”
MZ: “What did you buy to get into the raffle?”
SG: “I bought a history book”
MZ: “Ooo a history book okay, what did you receive from winning the book fair raffle?”
SG: “I got a pen, a donut eraser a free book, and a chocolate calculator”
MZ: “Did you like what you received?”
SG:” Yes, I did”
MZ: “Will you buy from the book fair again?”
SG: “Yeah, I would”
MZ: “Do you have anything else you’d like to add?”
SG: “No”
MZ: “Thank you for your time”
Now that was just a short interview, not many questions but here I interviewed Mr Malmstrom who then gave me more information on the book fair.. (He’s also got some pretty good advice at the end)
MZ: “Hi, I just have a few questions”
Mr. Malmstrom: “Okay”
MZ: “Why did you decide to do a book fair?”
TM: “Great question! Well, we had book fairs here all the time, every year, pre-pandemic. After the pandemic, we did not have any, so I said, “Wow, we should probably bring back the book fair.” So I met with the previous principal, and we decided to bring it back. We found out that it raises money for the school as well, and now it’s a yearly event that people seem to love!
MZ: “Okay”
TM: “And plus reading is great! Let’s promote it”
Mia- “How much money did the book fair raise?”
TM: “That is a great question, this year we sold $4,000 worth of books and merchandise, which raised the school about $1,000
MZ: “Where does the money go?”
TM: “Great question, the money goes to different departments so that they can spend money on instructional tools and bolster teacher libraries for high-interest books another example is when students come up to me and they want to read a book then I can go to our Scholastic account and buy the book for them to read it’s really just a great way to get teachers more resources”
MZ: “Okay, do you know how many books were sold overall?”
TM: “I think that the number was 3 or 400 books. Our goal was to hit at least $3000 and we ended up with $4000 in sales which was good. Now how much was on books and how much was on toys I’m not sure completely but let’s just say books about 3-400 books”
MZ: “When is the next book fair happening?”
TM: “The next book fair is going to be next December we are not doing one in May or June this year because there was not any interest last year. So that will be next December”
MZ: “Okay, how often does Woodbridge Middle do a book fair?”
TM: “Every year!”
MZ: “Thank you! That is all my questions. Do you have anything else you’d like to add?”
TM: “Great question I’m glad that you asked that. I’d like to say that Mia, you did
A great job on the interview, and I’d also like to say that everyone should read more because it will improve their lives”
MZ: “Okay, thank you!”
