Super Smash Brothers is a game that requires a lot of skill and time to master. This how-to will be an in-depth tutorial on how to improve. For this tutorial, I used the Super Smash Bro Pro Jadrian Rodriguez.
Good characters for beginners-
“Kirby, Donkey Kong, Mario, or Link.” Jadrian chose these because “they are who you start with and they are easy to use.”
Finding a main-
Finding a main is crucial in Smash Bros. The easiest way to find your main is to try every one. The character you play the best with and like to play is who should be your main. Another way you could find a main is by asking your friend who is better than you and who they think you would play well with.
I main a few different people like Byleth, Kazuya, Corrin, and Cloud. I started playing Kazuya, Corrin, and Cloud because I tried everyone and felt I played the best with them. I started playing Byleth because Jadrian thought I would play well with her.
Moves-
Learn the moves of the person you want to play, because if you master hitting these moves you can turn them into combos which I’ll talk more about later. Learning your A and B attacks is crucial so you can deal damage and win matches.
Shielding/Blocking-
“It is crucial for being a better player. It helps you avoid your opponent’s attacks and, in return lets you punish them.” is what Jadrian thinks.
Punishing-
Punishing is important so you can deal consistent damage to your opponent after they miss, or you dodge, block, or roll.
Aerials-
Aerials consist of being in the air and using your A attacks. Aerials are important because they help with combos and dealing damage even if your opponent is in the air.
Good characters for intermediates No DLCs- Roy, Chrom, Marth, Ike, Lucina, R.O.B. They are harder to use but they are more strong.
Practice-
Practice with your main and maybe a couple of other characters. If you only practice on your main then it will get really good but it will also let the opponent pick a countering character that they play well with, that’s why it is important to play more than one person.
Combos-
once you get good with your main, combos are important to deal constant damage to your opponent. This is important so you can get your opponent to a high present very quickly.
Good characters for pros with DLCs-
Terry, Joker, Kazuya, and any DLC can except for Steve, he’s for really advanced players but pros can really use anyone because they are very good characters
