The Dark Side of the Moon By: Charlotte Cardenas

Genesis Henriquez, Spring Editor

Some may say it’s wrong

To look at you the way I do.

I expect to see that part of your face

Where the sections of your hair gently fall

To cover your cheeks and glasses.

Where there are so many freckles

I can map out and create constellations.

Inspired by your image

I sketch your face on all of my notes.

Congratulations,

You’ve conquered all of the planets in my universe.

I turn my head expecting to see

The same side of the moon I always see,

Why should I expect anything more?

You’ve always looked toward another planet,

Everyone but mine.

But this time,

It’s your copper eyes staring right back into mine

And you’ve created a whole new point of view

For me to study.

I take out my telescope,

And start to discover the secrets of your universe and

This side of you that you have so kindly

Shared with me.
