Mr. Olvesen, a science and robotics teacher, said he thinks attending robotics class benefits the students by being “able to to build something, code something so you can find success at all levels. You can have no knowledge of how to build a robot and come and have success, you can have experience in building robots in coding and you can be challenged to do more technical development of robotics instructions, whether it be coding or trying to meet whatever challenge I set forth.”
Olvesen then explained what is important for a student in robotics. He said, “Creativity is important because creativity allows you to push the envelope and solve problems that no one has thought of as problems.”
Creativity is an important aspect of robotics. Olvesen said, “Sometimes we find ourselves in situations where we think we are just supposed to follow the plan and that’s where the creativity process begins because you can take something someone else did and advance it.”
Mr. Olvesen gave reasons to make others want to join robotics class, “Do you like problem solving? Do you like building things? Do you enjoy being proud of the work you produce ? Do you like Lego’s? Because we run a Lego program. Our robots are Lego Spike Prime Robots so do you like building Lego’s? Have you ever tried to build a Lego and actually have it work because usually you build Lego and that’s it it’s just the models here our Lego’s are in operation. I’m sure on some levels kids don’t like no homework, we don’t take the robot home.“
