The WMS baseball team made it into the play-offs at Woodbridge High School on October 15th (Tuesday) 2024.
Coach Olvesen, coach of the WMS Baseball team, discussed what to do in the off-season when they return to/enter the team again to play better.
Coach Olvesen shared some tips and needs of what they need to do in the off-season. Mr. Olvesen said, “In the off-season you should get as much hitting as possible I feel as though everybody should get into a routines but I can tell ya I will be willing to wager by the 550-600 kids in our school I’ll bet you only a hand of kids get up at 5-6 in the morning getting a gym session in doing some or any kind of workout doesn’t take much at your age to go do 100 push-ups 100 sit-ups.”
Olvesen then talked about how a player of his got way better compared to how he used to be. He said, “The thought process that I have is that we have a year to work, a year to work and some of us find ourselves in rec leagues, some of us don’t but I can tell you, man [the player] never touched a baseball until last season and he came back and, see he has never moved out of [position] , he is still [position)] for me.” Coach Olvesen referenced a player that played their way into a position through hard work.
Coach Olvesen spoke about what type of conditioning to do to get better on certain aspects of baseball. He said, “But if you’re talking about conditioning for the season ahead of time, and we’d obviously want to increase our arm strength so a little weight training, a little throwing is always good. Our team this season struggles with catching the ball and throwing the ball.”
Coach Olvesen finished off the previous question, “You know? So throwing at a target would be good. You know, working on the fundamentals, the form is important.”
