The WMS girl’s basketball team is preparing for the upcoming WMS season this fall.
Mrs.Kaschak, the coach of the basketball team said that she owes her basketball interest to her dad, “I started coaching because I stopped playing basketball I played basketball up to my freshman year, and then after that I decided it wasn’t for me to play anymore so then i started coaching with my dad.”
Kaschak said when the tryouts are for this year, “Tryouts for 7th and 8th graders start next Monday, and 6th graders we will find out when they get all their physicals they will have their day of tryouts and then the team will come out from there.”
Kaschak added that to practice for tryouts you have to “work some skills like ball handling, dribbling, passing, shooting, basic shooting (not shooting three-pointers), layups, small jump shots.”
Brielle Nelson, an 8th grader who played on the team last year, said, “My brother plays for the high school varsity basketball team when I see him play basketball it inspires me to play basketball too.”
Nelson also included, “I started playing basketball first as an extra thing to do but then I learned to love it.”
Kaschak explained why she misses her 8th graders who are now in high school, “I miss a lot of them I love seeing them progress and I wouldn’t physically say one they all have their special skills that stand out.”
Nelson also clarified which player she misses the most from last year, ”Bobbi Joe, she was very nice she made sure everyone was okay and she was a good leader.”
