The Face on the Milk Carton by Caroline B. Cooney

Duped twice – shame on me! Years ago, I read this book, but didn’t recollect the details or the ending, so I read it again for the WMS Book Club.  After completing the book, I screamed, “Not again!”  I forgot the end did not give a resolution to a child kidnapping case, but rather sucked you into reading the next book and the next and the next! Frustrating.

Janie Johnson was a sheltered teen in Connecticut when she sees her face on a milk carton at school, listed as “Missing.”  She is afraid to ask her “parents” what the story is, so she goes through a multitude of clues trying to figure out/come up with a story that makes sense.  With side stories involving a love interest, Reeve, and a trip to stalk the people she believes to be her parents, it is at least a compelling read.  However, with no resolution, the reader is left cheated. If you’re into a “to-be-continued”-type story, this/these is/are your novel(s)!
