1967- Donald Evans earns Medal of Honor

Donald Evans was a 23 year old medic from Covina, California. He was awarded the posthumous Medal of Honor (a Medal of Honor awarded after the death of the receiver).

Evans’ unit wasn’t committed to the battle near the hamlet of Tri Tam when another unit close to his was fired on. Evan ran through 100 yards of open field, with total disregard to his own safety, and treated six wounded soldiers. He also carried two soldiers whose injuries were more serious to safety. He then ran back to join his platoon, carrying two more soldiers out of the line of fire. He was unfortunately killed by enemy fire while running to help another soldier.

His brave act won him the nation’s highest award for bravery- the Medal of Honor.
