A new teen drama movie, You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, was released on Netflix in late August of this year. It is a somewhat relatable movie, starring Sunny Sandler as 7th grader Stacy Friedman.
The film focuses on BFFs Stacy Friedman and Lydia Rodriguez Katz, who have always fantasized about having the most perfect bat mitzvahs. Their lives take a turn as drama and boys get in the way of their friendship.
Movie critic Natasha Alvar said, “It must run in the family, because Sunny Sandler has a knack for comedy just like her old man. She commits wholeheartedly to all the comedic bits, but also handles the more poignant moments with equal aplomb” and rated the movie 8/10.
WMS 8th grader Gracie Milevoi said, “I relate to the movie because they were the same age as us and it was awkward like it is in our school. My favorite character was Mateo because he was so kind to Stacy. I would rate the movie 9/10 because it was a very good movie and I would watch it again”.
In my opinion, You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah is currently one of the best teen drama movies right now. The way that it is relatable but still really interesting is a great way to keep people watching. I think the plot and characters were top tier and I love the chemistry between the actors. The movie really represents middle school drama well. I would definitely recommend it!
