1935- Amelia Earhart flies from Hawaii to California
Amelia Earhart traveled 2,400 miles in just 18 hours on January 11, 1935. She went from Wheeler Field in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Oakland Airport in Oakland, California. Earhart had also attempted to fly all the way around the globe with her co-pilot, Frederick J. Noonan, but her plane was lost somewhere between Howland and New Guinea on July 2, 1937. The last thing Radio operators heard from her was her signal that she was low on gas.
