8th Grade October Student of the Month Winners Become Recognized
Randy Kawka and Silvia Kariuki won the October Student of the Month (SOTM) on October 31st during Homeroom. Every month, each teacher selects a student who is doing well, and then two or three students are selected. Kawka and Kariuki were asked about how it felt about winning student of the month.
Kawka was surprised when he was called for Student of the Month. He received Student of the Month last year. He was not as surprised when winning the second time. When asked about winning, Kawka said, “I think it means that I have good grades and behavior.”
Kariuki was also surprised when she won Student of the Month. “I felt very flabbergasted and surprised. I was so confused, but at the same time I was like, ‘I knew it.”’ She said her class applauded her, but other than that there wasn’t much of a reaction. According to Kariuki, she thinks that winning SOTM means that she accomplished something. Kariuki has not won Student of the Month before. She thinks that she improved herself since 6th and 7th grade to win in 8th grade. She says, “You can change the way you think and act if you actually try to improve yourself.”
