6th grade October students of the month make a great first impression
Anthony Velardo, Caitlin McNish, and Christina McNish all were awarded the honorable October Student of the Month award. This means that each of them went above and beyond to work for this accomplishment.
Anthony Velardo was asked what encouraged him to be a good student, he said that because it’s a new school he wants to “set a good first impression.” Velardo didn’t think he would get student of the month because he “always sees other students around, doing good things.” Therefore, when his named was called, he was shocked. He said that when he heard his name, he just looked at his friends and his homeroom teacher, Ms. VanKleef, was dancing. She says that she was not surprised that Anthony won. Ms. VanKleef says that Velardo always participates, he’s positive, cheery, and always goes the “extra mile”. VanKleef was excited for Anthony and was proud that he was representing their homeroom so well. Outside of school, he says that he bikes around as a hobby. He does trick hops and always tries his best, even when he fails. Velardo also plays ice and street hockey. Lastly, he says he likes WMS so far, and likes the food and teachers.
Caitlin McNish was interviewed second. To be a good student, she says that she does her work and is kind to others. She, like Velardo, didn’t think she would win student of the month because there were plenty more kids in the school. McNish says that when her name was called, she was “really surprised”. Outside of school, McNish plays soccer for a travel team called the Lady Warriors. In her free time, she watches T.V, and sculpts things out of clay. So far, Caitlin thinks that WMS is pretty big, but still likes the teachers and her friends.
Christina McNish, Caitlin’s sister, says that she always tries her best and is nice to the people around her. Christina felt fortuitous she’d get student of the month because she’s a “pretty good student,” but she just wasn’t sure. When her name was called she was happy and surprised because there were a bunch of great students around her that could’ve won. In her free time, she reads and draws, “I’m not that great at drawing, but I enjoy it and try my best,” McNish states. McNish is also part of the Lady Warrior soccer team. So far, McNish likes the nice teachers at WMS. She also likes switching classes and says, “ the pizza is good here, too.” McNish, Velardo, and McNish were all proud to be awarded Student of the Month.
