On this day in history in 1933, Franklin D. Roosevelt took office as America’s 32nd president. 

Roosevelt served as president for twelve years, as he ran for a third term due to concerns of the threat of Nazi Germany. He was a member of the Democratic Party and led the United States through two major crises: the Great Depression and World War II.
