MR BLASENA CLASS

Alison, Fall Author

Get your popcorn ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Blasena and Mr. Cardoso have created a movie elective class for WMS.

Mr Blasena  “found the biggest challenge is that people felt uncomfortable to be on camera”.  He decided to make a movie class so students wouldn’t be shy in front of the camera. In his class he does projects based on one major skill; “how to videos” and “how to use the green screen” are two examples.

He likes his class because they’re the only class of its kind in the district and Mr. Cardoso and Mr. Blasena planned it from scratch. YouTube inspired Mr. Blasena to create the class because “every time his students went to the computers they always watch YouTube videos and ask him questions like, “how do they do this” and “do they get paid?”.  So, Blasena based his class on student interest in the production of YouTube videos.

WORKING ON HOW TO DO A BRAID; These girls are working on how to braid a girl’s hair

The reason that only 7th grade could join movie class is because “8th graders got coding as an elective and 7th graders don’t have a tech elective.”  Seventh grader, Katie Joe, said that she likes the movie class because she “likes  going outside and getting lots of freedom to videotape.” Jada Castro gave some advice for students interested in taking this class next year,  she said to  “have fun with it, don’t be shy, and it will help you get out of your shell.”  Their favorite part of this class is “the freedom, filming, and Mr. Blasena’s  jokes.”

Sukhdeep Kaur, seventh grader,  likes this class because ”it’s a really fun class and we get to work with partners and learn new things like how to put a picture in a movie and how to upload a movie.” If  you’re wondering how you could join Mr. Blasena’s class, you have to get an A- for your final grade in technology or higher in 6th grade and it’s an elective for 7th graders.
