CONGRATULATIONS : The WMS band stands up proud after winning their awards.

Our WMS band struck a note at a Music in the Parks competition at Six Flags on May 12, 2017, where the students celebrated after their hard work.

It was both Ms. Benkert’s and the students’ first time performing at a competition, and they were “incredible”. Ms. Benkert led the band to the competition to “see what the judges would say”, and to “get another chance to play.”

Ms. Benkert felt the band could still “blend their sound”, but overall said the band was “awesome”. Ms. Benkert plans to do another competition, hoping they can improve on the judges comments.

The sixth graders start off Woodbridge Middle School’s performance with a bang, playing “Dry Bones” and “Amazing Grace”.

Chloe Monsanto, the president of the 6th grade band, felt that the band did “good’, but they could still “improve”. Julia Lubas, a seventh grader, said the band can perform a “little better”, considering their dynamics and staccatos. Lubas still gave the band a 7/10.

Kamil Lemdani, the president of the 7th and 8th grade band, felt they did “well”.  Lemdani also felt that the band did “great”, especially since they won the “best spirit award”.

The 7th and 8th band played “Quintus” and ”You’ll Never Walk Alone”, filling the room with emotion.

The band performed at a Music in the Parks competition, a national event where students perform in front of judges who rank bands based on their performance. The bands are then are allowed to celebrate at a local amusement park, which is followed by an awards ceremony for all the participants.

The 6th graders were given a ranking of excellent, and the 7th and 8th graders were given a ranking of superior, the highest ranking given. The band’s overall performance got them the Six Flags Great Adventure Espirit De Corps Award, an award recognizing the sportsmanship of our students.

Congratulations to our WMS band!
