Electoral College 2.0

The electoral college has become controversial in the last few elections. It is a system where people vote for electors to vote for the president. Each state gets a certain amount of electoral votes based on their population.

People in safe states can’t affect the election and only voters in swing states affect who wins.  Safe states are states that go for one party 100% of the time and you can’t do anything about it. Swing states have the potential to be won by either party.

My proposal for a better system goes like this: Each state gets 100 electoral votes and they vote based on how many votes each politician got. 1 electoral vote for every 1% of the vote.

This system provides the politicians appeal to small population states because you need less people to get 75% of the vote in Dakota than California. They will have to appeal to the views of states like North and South Dakota to get elected. Larger states wouldn’t like it because they wouldn’t have as much control. It evens the playing field so it’s up to you to decide.

It is more fair because it protects states that have smaller populations. Furthermore, it would make the outcome more clear cut.
